DEADLINE HAS PASSED FOR CONFERENCE PAPERS

Original papers are invited on all aspects of cultural attitudes towards technology and communication for:

  • International Conference, to be held 1-3 August 1998
  • Special Issue, Electronic Journal of Communication/La Revue Electronique de Communication, to appear in the third quarter of 1998

We are seeking papers which articulate the connections between specific cultural values and present and/or possible future communicative practices involving CMC technologies. Papers should refer to documented cultural preferences, empirical research on communication, cross-cultural comparisons, etc. We seek papers and articles which, taken together, will help readers, researchers, and practitioners of "electronic democracy" better understand the role of diverse cultural attitudes as hindering and/or furthering the implementation of global computer communications systems such as the Internet and the World-Wide-Web.

All submissions will be peer-reviewed by an international panel of scholars and researchers. In addition to publication in the special issue, the Editorial Board is optimistic that a book version of the collection will also be issued.

Submissions to the special issue are due to the guest editor, Dr Charles Ess, by 1 November 1997. Please complete the submission form to register your interest in submitting a paper. For more information, please contact Dr Charles Ess, ejcrec@lib.drury.edu.

Submissions to the conference are due to the co-chair, Fay Sudweeks, by 1 November 1997. Please complete the submission form to register your interest in submitting a paper. For more information, please contact Fay Sudweeks, catac98@arch.usyd.edu.au.
